Eastleigh College is committed to ensuring that all learners on a full-time study programme who have not achieved grade 4 or 5 in English and/or maths by age 16 has the opportunity to access small group tuition to boost their opportunity for success on their chosen qualification. For the purpose of the ‘Tuition Fund’ programmes, groups will be no larger than 7 learners.

The College will provide access to the following:

  • Additional small group English and maths tuition with a view to consolidate learning and underpinning knowledge.
  • Additional small group Professional and Technical sessions to consolidate underpinning theory and knowledge or where assessments have been deferred due to the CV-19 closure periods.
  • Small group teaching for SEND learners who have experienced disruption to learning during the CV-19 closure period

How we will evidence the additional spend:

  • Assessment of need – all learners required to re-take English and Maths will be screened as per normal College process. On evaluation of diagnostic assessments those with the lowest scores for enrolled on both Functional Skills & GCSE will be identified and offered additional small groups sessions (where small groups are not already running – this will include apprentices).
  • Assessment of need – SEND learners will have the opportunity to attend an additional small group ‘catch up tutorial’ session each week to check progress and confirm underpinning knowledge/complete assessments that may require additional support.
  • Once all learners have been identified and costed delivery model will be produced based in staffing costs associated with the small group sessions. These sessions will be additional face to face sessions in top of their study programme hours.
  • Unless already identified, small group catch up sessions will begin between September→ November 2022.
