Industry training day inspires Refrigeration learners

Level 2 Refrigeration learners have enjoyed an interactive workshop run by industry specialists Testo, giving them the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals.

Working together in groups, the class spent the day experimenting with machinery and utilising equipment including manifolds, vacuums, cylinders and advanced thermometer kits. There was also considerable discussion on the future of the industry and the importance of progressive technology such as heat pumps, in the national effort to embrace renewable energy in alignment with the government’s Net Zero target.

Industry training days are always a popular event in the Refrigeration calendar, with the input from guest professionals and insiders helping to broaden horizons and impart new techniques. It follows our successful cross-department Industry Week earlier this year as well as a similar Industry takeover session in our Gas Assessment Centre last month.

Scott Perry, Refrigeration Lecturer at Eastleigh College, said: “The learners had a brilliant day and it was great to see they had so many questions about the equipment and technology. Renewable energy will be crucial to the industry going forward so it is great for them to see the benefits of this. The department also intends to embrace renewable energy further by installing more heat pumps on campus over the next year.”
