Eastleigh College’s Gas Assessment Centre supports Government Build Back Greener Strategy

Eastleigh College is encouraging gas engineers to upskill and become ground and air source heat pump qualified in a bid to assist in the UK's ambition to become net zero for carbon emissions by 2050.

The College’s  BPEC registered Gas Assessment Centre is providing a selection of courses, which when completed, equip engineers with the entry criteria required for completing the Installation and Maintenance of the Ground/Air Source Heat Pumps qualification.

In October this year the Government launched its Build Back Greener Strategy for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy to meet the 2050 target. An alternative to fossil fuels, ground and air source heat pumps are a major tool in the battle against carbon emissions.

Alan Moth, Gas Assessment Centre Coordinator said, “With the Government’s drive to replace Natural Gas with renewable energy, Eastleigh College is helping businesses and individuals prepare for the future and is offering these courses to cater for those who are upskilling and also entry level candidates.”

The College is further contributing towards education in this area by launching The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Environmental Sustainability at a time when climate change tops the global agenda as world leaders gather for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.

This brand new Certificate provides an overview of the principles of sustainable development, communities and energy management, and the social responsibility of businesses in relation to sustainability.

The three courses gas engineers need to complete in order to move on to the ground and air source heat pump course are:

  • One day Energy Efficiency (Part L) course
  • One day Water Regulations course
  • One day G3 Unvented Hot Water course

Each course is £240 including registration and certification fees or the College is offering all three courses for a combined cost of £675 if booked together.

David Martin from Mobile Services who completed his Unvented Hot Water and Water Regulations course said “I had excellent customer service from Eastleigh College and they got back quickly to me about their courses and application process. The Gas Assessment Centre offers the courses needed to move on to the next qualification, the Air Source Heat Pump course. From these courses I now have the knowledge and qualification to develop my business and what I offer to move along with the sustainable changes in the industry.”
