Over 40 exhibitors and speakers attend Eastleigh College Careers Week 2023

Eastleigh College has marked Careers Week by partnering with a diverse range of employers and businesses in the local community, enabling insight from many different industries.

Building upon the broad schedule of our 2022 Careers Week, this year’s programme brought together a fun mix of workshops, talks and interactive sessions. Tuesday saw the return of our popular Careers Fair, where we welcomed a huge range of employers to campus where they spoke to learners about potential career pathways during and beyond their college studies. Featured industries included childcare, healthcare, hospitality, recruitment, engineering and construction among many more. The rest of the week saw the focus shift to interactive activites and guest presentations, giving learners a flavour of daily life across both big organisations and smaller local businesses.

Sessions were well attended, with over 450 learners attending the Careers Fair alone. Learners were engaged and inquisitive across our guest talks, with different opportunities to participate in activities, such as producing short films in front of a green screen. One of the key themes of the week was to strengthen opportunity within local employment as well as enhance understanding of further and higher education pathways available to learners.

Georgie Tapley, Early Careers Specialist at Specsavers, said: “I attended Eastleigh College to talk about Life at Specsavers across Audiology, Optics and support office careers. This was an opportunity for us as a local employer in Hampshire to engage with local young people early in their careers and support them with understanding some of the opportunities to them in careers they may have never considered.”

Jessica Hilton, Company Accountant at Waterside Laboratories, said: “Attending the Eastleigh Careers Fair this week was of real benefit to our business to engage potential employees, market our apprenticeship opportunities and meet with other local employers.  This is the first fair that Waterside Laboratories has attended and we are looking forward to working with Eastleigh College in the future to raise awareness of the job opportunities we can offer.”

National Careers Week is a nationwide campaign celebrating careers advice and guidance across the UK. It follows further successful weeks already hosted at Eastleigh College in 2023 including National Apprenticeship Week 2023 and a special internal Diversity Week as well.
