What is Work Experience?
- An opportunity to experience working life.
- A chance to develop and practice new skills and become ‘career ready’.
- It can help you to focus on your next steps after Eastleigh College.
College expectations:
As part of your course you will need to do a minimum of 35 hours of work experience in your relevant subject area.
Some courses have their own requirements that require up to 100 hours. Please check with your tutor or work experience team
How do I find a work experience placement?
Using a search engine like google will help you to locate companies in the industry you are interested in. You can email or give them a call to see if they could offer you a placement. Sometimes its best to pop into the business to introduce yourself and speak to someone directly. Remember the business may be busy and could take a few days to respond.
Once you have found a placement, tell your tutor straight away so that the work experience team can contact the employer to confirm the placement.
Details you will need to supply are:
- Business name
- Contact name
- Contact email
- Contact Phone
- Address
- Type of business
What are the benefits of work experience?
- Try out career ideas
- Become more employable
- Boost your confidence
- Gain insight into the working world
- Put what you have learnt to the test!
- Improve your CV
- Can lead to paid employment or an apprenticeship
