An industry placement gives you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a real-world, business setting. These placements are designed to be consistent and offer all learners access to a meaningful experience and practical skills that can’t be gained in the classroom. Learners need to achieve 315 hours as a minimum, over 1-2 years.
The College will timetable one-two day per week into the College calendar for you to be able to attend your industry placement during term time. You may also be able to complete your placement hours using any non-college study days, weekends, out of term time and holiday periods. An attendance plan will be agreed with each student, employer or business at the start of the placement.
On completion of your placement, we will secure an employer reference for you which you can use to build relationships with employers to secure potential job or apprenticeship opportunities for the future.
How do I find an industry placement?
Using a search engine like google will help you to locate companies in the industry you are interested in. You can email or give them a call to see if they could offer you a placement. Sometimes its best to pop into the business to introduce yourself and speak to someone directly. Remember the business may be busy and could take a few days to respond.
Once you have found a placement, tell your tutor straight away so that the work experience team can contact the employer to confirm the placement.
