What opportunities will this course give me?
The VTCT Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) provides learners with the necessary understanding and skills to work as an advanced hairdresser. Progression opportunities include specialist VTCT vocationally related qualifications at Levels 3 and 4.
What will I be learning?
Evidence will be gained through practical assessment in the salon. Advanced practical skills include colour work. Photographic evidence of your work will be taken throughout the year. Theoretical knowledge & completion of assignments and exams will be developed during weekly theory classes. VRQ Level 3 Hairdressing is gained through continuous practical evidence gained in the salons, assignments, projects, a portfolio of evidence and written tests set by the awarding body. You will be taught both practical and theory in:
- Health & safety
- Retail promotion
- Advanced cutting
- Styling
- Dressing long hair
- Colour techniques Students will gain confidence and experience in the required skills by a mixture of theory and practical input, demonstrations and client work. Home study and practice is essential.

What do I need to sign up?
If English is your second language you must hold an ESOL level 1 qualification. You are required to hold a Level 2 hairdressing qualification or equivalent. Time management will need to be considered as in addition to college hours home study will be required. You will be expected to supply models for practical assessments, for which a service charge will apply.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Students who have completed the NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualification and are looking to complete a further year of study in advanced practical work, management skills and show work.
The VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards for Hairdressing and Barbering. This qualification will supplement the knowledge, understanding and skills learned at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, occupationally competent professional hairdressers. This qualification is most suited for learners wishing to advance in their profession or to become salon manager and/or owners.
Certificate of evidence for previous NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent. A4 file, notepaper, pens/pencils and an A4 ring binder for theory notes.
Mandatory kit = 155.10
Uniform if required = 75.00
