What opportunities will this course give me?
You will gain an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering and be able to apply for work within a barbering shop, or those students wishing to study more advanced or specialist techniques can progress onto; face care for men, providing shaving services.
We also provide industry placements and the fundamentals of business start ups to help start your own Hair/barber business.
What will I be learning?
The course gives you all the basic skills required for the men's industry covering:-
• Client Consultation & Diagnosis
• Blow Drying mens hair
• Shampooing & Conditioning Hair and Scalp
• Create basic patterns in hair
• Health & Safety in the Salon
• Cutting mens facial hair
• Promote additional services or products
• Cutting mens hair
You will also learn how to retail products and advise clients on aftercare. As in most salons you will need to be able to promote additional services and products. To enable you to do this we will help you develop promotional and customer service skills. NVQ 2 Diploma in Barbering is an internationally recognised qualification within the hair and beauty industry and will allow you to gain employment within the beauty industry. Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the course. A portfolio will be built up containing assignments, projects, practical work and tests. The course is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will be able to gain extra experience in the College salon and reception area.

What do I need to sign up?
Suitable for learners over 18 only. If English is your second language you must hold an ESOL level 1 qualification. No other pre-requisites.
Time management will need to be considered as in addition to your college hours, home study will be required.
You will be expected to supply models for formative & summative assessments for which a service charge will apply.
All part time learners will be required to complete an English diagnostic assessment to aid in the theory element of the course. The link will be sent out to you through our admissions department and can be completed at home.
An information evening will be set up before the start date of the course in order for you to meet with your tutors and gain as much information prior to the commencement date of the course as possible. You will be informed of the dates by our admissions department.

This course is suitable for learners over 18 only.
This course is for students wishing to achieve and practice barbering skills. Students do not need any previous qualifications or experience in hairdressing. This is a highly practical course underpinned with the theoretical knowledge required for you to work safely in a salon and understand the basics of hairdressing skills.
The tutors are all professionals with qualifications and experience of the hairdressing and barbering industry. They will help you to practice your new skills on each other, on mannequin heads and with clients in our new salons; which are open to the general public as well as staff and students.

Appropriate salon wear, you will be issued with a uniform order form on your first evening.
