What opportunities will this course give me?
This one year qualification will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a hairdresser. Upon completion, you may become a stylist in a variety of salon settings including traditional salons, armed forces, HM prisons and cruise liners or hospital/home care, manufacturer technician, industry sales and marketing, salon technician or bridal hair stylist.
Training progression can be via various routes, for example Level 2/3 Barbering, Level 3 Preparing to Set up Your Own Salon, Level 4 Hairdressing Management and Assessors Awards and Level 4 Hairdressing.
Once you have been hairdressing for a minimum of five years you can start your teacher training. Fully-trained hairdressers can earn between 14,000 and 20,000 a year. Top professional hairdressers can earn 30,000 a year or more, depending on who they work for and the salon location. Figures are intended as a guideline only (source: GOV.UK).

What will I be learning?
This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard-setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications. Once you have completed this qualification, you can use the post-nominal HDipHB (VTCT).
Throughout this qualification you will monitor procedures to safely control work operations, provide hairdressing consultation services, creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques and promote additional services or products to clients.
You will learn about combining, adapting and personalising a range of colouring and lightening techniques and the advanced skills necessary to determine and correct more complex colouring problems. You will also learn about a variety of conventional and non-conventional dressing and hair-up techniques to produce innovative, fashionable, creative and personalised looks to compliment individual clients, as well as how to combine and adapt a variety of styling techniques to produce the finished effect.
The units on the programme include creative cutting, fashion colouring, colour correction, creative styling and dressing long hair plus how to develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills. You will also learn related transferrable skills such as salon health and safety, client consultation and how to promote additional services and products.
During the programme you will take part in work experience, photographic competitions and hair shows.
All students without an 4 grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.

Level 3 Hairdressing is a highly practical one year programme, underpinned with the theoretical knowledge required for you to work safely in the salon and understand fundamental hairdressing skills.
You will recap the level 2 skills with extension tasks and progressive elements . The skill level on the level 3 programme is an extension of the level 2 programme exploring a variety of techniques to help to lift your standards .

What do I need to sign up?
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 including English Language and maths and L2 in the relevant vocational area.
For internal progression you will have completed L2 in the relevant vocational area and made positive progress to achieving your GCSE English and Maths (if below Grade 4) as well as demonstrating that you have upheld the college values.
You will require an interview with subject specialist staff to ensure you have a good understanding of the course you are applying for. Attendance and attainment reports from previous education will also be required. You may be asked to undertake a skills test.
Adult learners may apply for any of our full time and apprenticeship programmes and your vocational experience will also be taken into consideration alongside existing qualifications.
The programme is fully funded for learners aged 16-18.
For learners aged 19+ the price is upon application only, and after receiving information, advice & guidance.
Professional uniform and behaviour are essential in our commercial training salons and you will need to have good personable skills as you will be dealing with members of the public on a regular basis. This is a 35 week course running to a academic year. Commitment to the course duration is essential.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You are required to wear all black and a bespoke Apron (Approx cost £20.00) and adhere to the salon dress code of conduct.
You will also need to ensure that you bring a hairdressing kit to practical sessions.
Full kit as an extension to the level 2 kit £85.00 (Prices may increase) .
Access to email and a PC at home is advisable.
Once you are qualified you can become a state registered hairdresser if you have not already registered following your Level 2 Hairdressing Qualification.
Certificate of evidence for previous NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent. A4 file, notepaper, pens/pencils and an A4 ring binder for theory notes.
All learners enrolled on a full-time study programme are expected to attend a compulsory work or industry placement during their course. The number of hours of placement will vary from 35 hours through to 750 hours, this variance is due to the differing types of assessment on each course.
Learners should be aware that this is compulsory part of their study programme and work / industry placements will take place during the college week.
