What opportunities will this course give me?
This one year full-time course offers great opportunities for those looking for a future in the growing travel and tourism sector. Job opportunities are varied and plentiful. Learners go on to work in areas such as travel agencies, visitor attractions, the rail network, cruise liners or at airports, either on the ground or as air cabin crew. Others work as holiday representatives or in customer service in hotels and hospitality.
Work experience is in integral element of the course; it will be carried out over two weeks and undertaken in a local travel or hospitality related businesses. Staff on the course and in our work experience team will help you find your placement.
Those students who are successful to merit or distinction standard on Level 2 and have gained one of either English or maths GCSE Grade 4, with at least 90% attendance throughout the year, can progress on to Level 3 Travel and Tourism.
What will I be learning?
Compulsory units on the programme are Customer Service, Hospitality within Travel and Tourism, UK airports and Airlines, Careers within Travel and Tourism and Travel Agencies

All students without an A*-C / 9-4 grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.
Why is this course for me?
This is a great course for students looking to gain an overview of the travel and tourism industry. A variety of experience is brought to you from industry trained staff, and the course is tailored to meet the needs of all career choices within the industry. A variety of excursion opportunities to resorts in the UK and abroad are also available to broaden your horizons further.
Teaching and assessment methods vary from lectures and written assignments to demonstrations and seminars. You can expect to attend the College for approximately 15-16 hours per week and you will need to complete work at home.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Students learning is enhanced through a wide variety of seminars, talks and role play sessions. The course delivery is tailored to the specific learning needs of students, and support with applications for work or further education is happily given. The College also boasts a Flying Colours Airways classroom which is a mock‐up of an aircraft interior. We also have strong links with Southampton Airport.

What do I need to sign up?
No prior travel knowledge is required but you should demonstrate your interest and commitment to the travel and tourism programme.
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 including English and Maths.
All learners without a GCSE at grade A*-C or 9-4 in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme. Therefore, if you enter a programme with a Grade 3 in English or Maths, you will be required to take English or Maths as well.
You will require an interview with subject specialist staff to ensure you have a good understanding of the course you are applying for. Attendance and attainment reports from previous education will also be required.
Adult learners may apply for any of our full time and apprenticeship programmes and your vocational experience will also be taken into consideration alongside existing qualifications.
The programme is fully funded for learners aged 16-18.
For learners aged 19+ the price is upon application only, and after receiving information, advice & guidance.
Is there anything else I need to know?
During the course students will attend college excursions, we ask a deposit of £50.00 to cover trips throughout the year. No other equipment or special uniform or clothing is required but students must bring stationery to class.
All learners enrolled on a full-time study programme are expected to attend a compulsory work or industry placement during their course. The number of hours of placement will vary from 35 hours through to 750 hours, this variance is due to the differing types of assessment on each course.
Learners should be aware that this is compulsory part of their study programme and work / industry placements will take place during the college week.
