What opportunities will this course give me?
The UK is the 6th largest economy in the world. The sector employs over 29 million people within many different types of businesses and organisations. In 2017, there were 5.7 million private sector businesses in the UK, up by 197,000 or 4% since 2016.
This ever-growing industry provides so many opportunities for entrepreneurs and employees with a sound understanding of communication skills, marketing, and finance all of which are covered on Level 2 Media, Marketing & Event Management
The Event Management sector is rapidly growing and with millions events hosted around the world each year the need for experienced co-ordinators are on the rise.
This programme aims to develop skills such as self- management, business and customer awareness, team-working and problem-solving. These are seen as key attributes that employers look for in potential employees. Future career and progression routes can be onto, Level 3 Media, Marketing & Event Management. On a successful completion of the higher course, accountancy, marketing, human resources, logistics, law and administration.
Directly after the completion of Level 2, Apprenticeships, advance on to specific courses related to areas of interest or directly into industry, such as office juniors or administrator roles
This qualification was set up to address the need for enterprise at level 2 as identified by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) in Enterprise: Unlocking the UKs Talent (March 2008).
What will I be learning?
This programme is ideally suited for those with a genuine interest in starting up a business and event management, but who also have the ability and determination to succeed on this academic programme. There is an expectation for all business enterprise and event management students to help out at college open events and fund raising opportunities, both at college and within the local community. This programme provides learners with an opportunity to gain an insight into the wide and diverse nature of this growing sector. The programme retains a strong academic base, whilst including practical units and modules. You will need to be confident, self- motivated and a good communicator as this will stand you in good stead for your research work as well as your work placement. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will also learn about the employment area you have chosen, and you develop the skills you need to start a career. Learners will develop both knowledge and understanding of the business enterprise and event management industries, as well as develop important practical and organisational skills to support their progression. The programme is made up of a variety of practical and theoretical units with each graded as a pass or fail. The programme is made up of 6 units. The following are a sample of the units (it may vary each year): - Developing work related skills and behaviours - Applying Literacy in the workplace - Applying numeracy in the workplace - Working as part of a team - Anticipating ab meeting customer needs and expectations - Being entrepreneurial -
On completion of the programme, you can either choose to go into employment or into Further Education Level 3 Media, Marketing & Event Management. Students are expected to organise, with our help, a relevant work placement each year. In addition to this, they are expected to help voluntarily at college enrichment events around the college and with the local community. All students without a grade 4 or above in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.
Why is this course for me?
Assessment is throughout the year for both practical and theory units using a variety of assessment methods and styles. Each assignment will be graded as a Pass or Fail. These assignments may be reports, presentations, practical assessments or research projects.
What do I need to sign up?
You should have minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 including English &
maths. A proven record of good attendance and attainment reports from your previous school or college and successful college interview are also required.
Is there anything else I need to know?
The programme offers the dedicated student a wealth of opportunities and experiences. Students must be prepared to apply academic as well as practical skills. Students are encouraged to take a full and active part in college life.
For students aged 16-18 the programme is fully funded.
For learners aged 19+ the price is upon application only, and after receiving information, advice & guidance.
