Ellen went to another College straight from school to study A levels, but decided she didn't like how similar it was to school. She started researching alternative qualifications and Event Management jumped out at her - it was a completely new subject she hadn't studied before, and it sounded like something where her creativity could thrive.

As soon as Ellen started the course she knew it was for her. Her favourite part is actually running an event - she had no idea she would be involved in so many, from small-scale to large events! So far Ellen has organised coffee mornings, halloween parties, awards evenings, a Christmas fayre and a College trip to Thorpe Park.

Ellen says she feels a sense of pride to see everything come together at an events, especially after months of planning. She prefers the methods of teaching at Eastleigh College compared to her previous college, and has learned a range of skills including communication, networking, marketing and design.

Ellen believes the course has helped prepare her for a career in Event Management in many ways, including teaching her how to talk about a business idea, how to set up her own business and make new contacts.

One of the key parts of the course which Ellen feels has particularly benefited her is the numerous opportunities for work experience - "It's great being able to get tips from peolple about how they run their business."

You spend so long planning events, it's amazing to see them brought to life. You get a real sense of pride.

Once she has finished her course, Ellen would like to go into the music industry organising festivals and tour management.

College doesn't have to be like school - Ellen didn't enjoy doing the same thing repeatedly in classrooms, and found her technical and professional course much more practical and engaging.
