What opportunities will this course give me?
For those not employed within an appropriate setting as a Teaching Assistant, it will open doors to employment. The course will provide opportunities for employed Teaching Assistants to progress to a higher level Teaching Assistant qualification and build confidence in the role of understanding the knowledge behind the practice.
What will I be learning?
You will study fourteen mandatory and up to eight optional units covering communication, personal development, equality and inclusion, duty of care, child development, safeguarding, developing positive relationships, health and safety of children and young people, working together, supporting positive outcomes and professional practice in learning, development and support.
Why is this course for me?
This qualification provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a variety of unsupervised job roles that support children and young peoples learning in schools or colleges. Roles the qualification will prepare you for include: - Teaching Assistant - Learning Support Assistant - Special Needs Assistant. A level 3 qualification will help you to proceed to HLTA status.
How will my learning be enhanced?
A variety of teaching methods will be used including whole class, group work, team work, pair work, discussions, exercises, and handouts.
What do I need to sign up?
You will be required to have a school placement and be either employed or volunteering for a minimum of twelve hours per week. If volunteering you should be in the role for at least three months before applying for a place on this course. You will be required to have a good level of English in order to complete assignments.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You will be required to have a mentor in school to guide and support you in the workplace.
You will be required to attend online classes once a week for 2 hours in the evening.
An electronic portfolio is provided. You will need the course book and access to a computer/laptop or similar to complete assignments and attend online lessons.
