Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership and Management

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16+, working within health and social care. It confirms competence for roles such as:
- senior care assistant and support worker in residential settings, domiciliary services, or day services
- senior healthcare assistant and support worker in community and primary care environments
- senior support worker in supported living projects
- community-based care assistant/ support worker/key worker, including in specialist areas, e.g. dementia, learning disabilities.

What does this programme involve?

The Advances Apprenticeship in Health and Social care consists of 4 elements which are: Health and Social care NVQ, Health and Social Care technical certificate, Employers Right and Responsibility unit along with functional skills in maths and English at level 2.
The Mandatory units are:
-Promote communication
-Engage in personal development
-Promote equality and inclusion
-Principles for implementing duty of care
-Principles of safeguarding and protection
-The role of the health and social care worker
-Promote person centred approaches
-Promote and implement health and safety
-Promote good practice in handling information

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.

What else do I need to know?

The framework has two pathways at Intermediate and Advanced Level. Pathway 1 - Adult Social Care is maintained and certificated by Skills for Care (on behalf of Skills for Care and Development) Pathway 2 - Health is maintained and certificated by Skills for Health.
In the Adult Social Care path way this framework provides a suitable way to meet the development and qualification needs of a variety of roles and job titles, including care workers, community, support and outreach workers, personal assistance, domiciliary care workers, supervisors and senior care workers. The apprenticeship framework is inclusive of emerging roles in adult social care. As well as being suitable for existing staff.
In the health sector, this framework is suitable for healthcare assistants or clinical support workers. This framework supports the broad vision of the sector to develop an increasingly skilled, flexible and effective workforce whilst maintaining high quality and safe care for patients and it addresses specific outcomes of the Skills for Health Sector Skills Assessment 2011.

How do I apply?

If you are hoping to undertake a workbased apprenticeship, please be aware that you will need to be employed in a relevant role in industry and your employer must agree to your training.
