What opportunities will this course give me?
Students may wish to gain specialist treatment knowledge by continuing their studies with the Level 3 General Beauty Therapy course to increase employment & management opportunities, or to help set up their own business.
For students choosing to go into employment the range of opportunities available include working in a spa, beauty salon, cruise liners or self-employment.
We also provide industry placements and the fundamentals of business start ups to help start your own Hair or Beauty business.
What will I be learning?
This programme is a progression route for those students who have completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy (NVQ or VRQ). You will be able to extend your knowledge and practical skills to learn the most up-to-date treatment procedures in the beauty industry.
The programme covers a range of advanced treatments and skills, which include:
• Provide body massage
• Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
• Working in the beauty related industry
• Provide body electrical treatments
• Provide facial electrical treatments
• Apply individual permanent lashes
• Provide self-tanning
• Provide Nail Enhancements using acrylic and gel
• Provide microdermabrasion
Why is this course for me?
The programme is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will gain experience in the college commercial salon sessions, as well as from work placements and employer visits throughout the programme.
To Successfully achieve this qualifications all of the following elements must be completed to the awarding body standard.
1. Graded practical assessments
2. Externally set and marked examinations
3. Externally set and internally marked graded synoptic assessment
We also provide industry placements and the fundamentals of business start ups to help start your own Hair or Beauty business.
After learners have completed their Level 3 Beauty Therapy they can enrol onto Level 4 Advanced Beauty Therapy

What do I need to sign up?
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 including English Language and mathematics and a Level 2 Beauty Therapy, or an equivalent, qualification. Tutors will be able to advise you if previous qualifications are suitable and accepted upon application.
For internal progression you will have completed L2 in the relevant vocational area and made positive progress to achieving your GCSE English and Maths (if below Grade 4) as well as demonstrating that you have upheld the college values.
You will require an interview with subject specialist staff to ensure you have a good understanding of the course you are applying for. Attendance and attainment reports from previous education will also be required. You may be asked to undertake a trades test.
Adult learners may apply for any of our full time and apprenticeship programmes and your vocational experience will also be taken into consideration alongside existing qualifications.
The programme is fully funded for learners aged 16-18. Fees may apply for 19+.
The offer of a place will also depend on previous knowledge, experience, attendance and a neat and tidy appearance.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Learners will gain an insight into the career prospects of beauty therapy during a visit to the industrys largest beauty exhibition at Excel in London, as well as having visiting speakers from Spa's and cruise line companies. Learners will be expected to participate in Industry Week & to attend one week of work experience.
You will require a uniform with shoes, costing approximately £61.50.( 20/21 Cost, Prices may have increased) .
You will also require equipment to support your practice kit - £125.50 (20/21 Cost, Prices may have increased) .
Additional fees may include trips and industry qualifications offered during Industry Week or other part-time courses.
Work experience placements will require students to plan and organise their own travel. This is part of the necessary development and preparation for employment.
All learners enrolled on a full-time study programme are expected to attend a compulsory work or industry placement during their course. The number of hours of placement will vary from 35 hours through to 750 hours, this variance is due to the differing types of assessment on each course.
Learners should be aware that this is compulsory part of their study programme and work / industry placements will take place during the college week.
For learners aged 19+ the price is upon application only, and after receiving information, advice & guidance.
