Learning Centre book sale benefits charities

Two charities have benefited following a cull of books no longer needed by the college’s extensive library. During a stocktake of the library's collection of over 11,000 books, over 400 were donated to African schools or sold to raise money for a leading cancer charity.

Eastleigh College is offering rapid-turnaround lateral flow tests for learners and staff to help in the fight against Covid-19. Lateral flow tests can produce quick results and can be used to identify Covid-19 infection in those without symptoms (asymptomatic).

Engineering apprentice wins national industry award

A refrigeration engineering apprentice at Eastleigh College has been named ‘National Student of the Year’ at the cooling industry’s annual awards. Seventeen-year-old Luke Haile, who is in his second year of a three-year Engineering Technician advanced apprenticeship with Fareham-based Lightfoot Defence Ltd, discovered he’d won the coveted title and top cash prize during a special online broadcast event.

Two-way support as learners engage with mental health charity

Enterprise learners at Eastleigh College pulled on resources from Hampshire’s leading mental health charity, Solent Mind. They gained invaluable knowledge as they worked in teams to create a mental health awareness campaigns, and many also found the insight personally beneficial.  

Triple triumph: Three students shortlisted for national industry award

Three Eastleigh College engineering apprentices shortlisted for RAC & IOR Student of the Year at national cooling industry awards. Luke Haile, Matthew Huckle, Gemma Weston and five students from other colleges will compete for the coveted title which will be announced at a special event and broadcast on 9 December 2020.

Employers' support instrumental to mock interview success

Leading organisations from across the public sector supported Eastleigh College’s careers team in successfully delivering the college’s first ever online mock interview week. The event, which was organised by SUN Progression Mentor, Becky Parker, was well received by both learners and representatives who volunteered their time.

Launch of UK-Dutch Logistics Career Colleges network to benefit learners

Eastleigh College is one of only seven FE colleges in the UK to be part of The Career Colleges Trust, which has joined forces with STC International in the Netherlands to launch a pioneering network of specialist logistics colleges.

Eastleigh College Confirms COVID-19 Cases

At midday on Thursday 19 November we were made aware of eight confirmed COVID-19 cases amongst College learners. Based on the information supplied in seven of these cases there has been possible transmission linked to attendance at the College. In addition two staff members are required to self-isolate whilst seeking tests. Through our seating and group plans we have been able to quickly identify any learner(s) who were in proximity to the affected learners and all identified learners have been contacted in advance of this information being posted online and through social media.  The College has also made contact with the parents, guardians or carers of these individuals where they are under 18, or under 25 and have an Education Health and Care Plan. National recognition for careers and enterprise innovation

Eastleigh College has been commended by the Association of Colleges for the careers and progression support it provides to learners by being shortlisted for this year’s Beacon Awards. This recognition highlights the outstanding work of the college’s career and work readiness team, and other staff across the college who are dedicated to ensure learners are fully aware of the opportunities available to them.
