Eastleigh College Winter Break and January 2022

Eastleigh College is closed for the winter break from 17:00 on Thursday 23rd December 2021 to 08:30 on Tuesday 4th January 2022. During the winter break the College will be monitoring COVID-19 related developments as they may occur. The current plans for January are linked here: https://www.eastleigh.ac.uk/covid-19/. Any changes to these plans will be communicated via the College news section and social media accounts. The current plans include testing all onsite learners from Tuesday 4th to Monday 10th January.

Eastleigh College achieves Craft Guild of Chefs accreditation

Eastleigh College is celebrating becoming the first college in the south of England to receive the coveted Craft Guild of Chefs accreditation. This can only be accomplished by meeting the high standards and criteria laid out by the Craft Guild of Chefs association. To pass, lecturers and learners were carefully observed and monitored during training sessions, with an inspection of our East Avenue restaurant and individual interviews also on the itinerary.

Medical Mavericks partner with Eastleigh College to deliver practical healthcare workshops

Eastleigh College have joined forces with the Medical Mavericks organisation to deliver two interactive training sessions to Health and Social Care learners. Operating out of the College’s new Learner Hub, each three hour workshop gave participants the chance to assume the roles of medics, sampling a range of equipment including ultrasound machines, blood pressure monitors, ECG monitors and even a prosthetic arm for phlebotomy training.

Hampshire Fire Headquarters open their doors to Public Services learners

Two classes of Level 3 Public Services learners have had the exciting opportunity of spending an activity-filled morning at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Headquarters. Attendees had the chance to participate in six special activites which tested both their physical ability and mental resilience under pressure.

Travel and Tourism alumnus inspires learners with special talk

Eastleigh College Travel and Tourism learners have been treated to a special visit from a guest speaker, who shared how his qualification at Eastleigh has helped launch his career as a Cabin Crew Attendant. 19-year-old Ethan Elkins studied at Eastleigh College between 2018 and 2020, as part of his Travel and Tourism Level 3 Diploma. Little over a year later, he is a firm fixture among the cabin crew of Wizz Air - an airline carrier that serves 44 countries and flies to over 100 airports, predominantly in Europe but also Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Ethan’s role often sees him travel to dozens of different destinations per week, catering to the on-board needs of thousands of travellers.

Adult Learning course applications rise by over 15% in three months

Eastleigh College have received more than 1500 Adult Learning course applications since September – a rise of over 15%. The majority of these applications are for part time courses. All part time courses offer a blended learning approach, allowing for greater accommodation of other learner commitments, whether personal or professional. This involves attendance one day per month at Eastleigh College which is complemented by online weekly lessons via our digital delivery platforms and full remote support available through the week.

Alumnus demonstrates long-lasting benefits of a Level 3 Personal Training qualification

Twelve years after its inception during a Level 3 Personal Training lesson at Eastleigh College, Macksfitness Ltd has grown to provide personal training and fitness classes to over 150 people per week. Macksfitness Ltd was first established in 2009, while its director and founder Andy McNeil was studying Level 3 Personal Training at Eastleigh College. What began as a modest training initiative has developed into a diverse program that offers personal training, private fitness and corporate fitness classes.

Eastleigh College update - COVID-19 measures for week commencing Monday 29 November

On Saturday 27th November, the Prime Minister announced new temporary measures following the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the UK. On Sunday 28th November, the Department for Education published updated guidance for Colleges relating to the new temporary measures to slow down the spread of the variant. Therefore, from Monday 29th November 2021, it will be compulsory to wear face masks or coverings when stood up anywhere in College.

Event Management learners bounce back to raise £650 for Piam Brown Ward during the Christmas Fayre

Event Management learners at Eastleigh College have successfully delivered the first in-person community fundraising event since the Covid-19 pandemic, raising £650 for the Piam Brown Ward in Southampton Children’s Hospital. Established in 2013, the Christmas Fayre has grown to become one of the marquee events in the college calendar. Over £4000 has been raised since its initial launch, with stalls specialising in toys, handmade ornaments, sweets, hot drinks and eco-friendly beauty products

Alison Murray, the new Work Experience and Industry Placement Team Leader at Eastleigh College is busy matching up offers of work placements from employers with recently enrolled school-leavers on BTEC vocational programmes who are seeking relevant work experience to put their course theory into practice.

Eastleigh College partners with Hampshire Constabulary to educate young people about knife crime

Eastleigh College Creative Media learners have been working in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary on a project to educate young people about knife crime in the local area. The learners then used their digital knowledge to design and create media products, such as posters and animations, to help to spread the anti knife crime message.

Eastleigh College Diploma Student reaches final of Culinary Arts Competition at WorldSkills UK

Edward Rogers, an 18 year old Level 3 Diploma in Advance Professional Cookery learner at Eastleigh College, has reached the final of the prestigious Culinary Arts Competition at WorldSkills UK in Glasgow this week.
