What will I be learning?
Want to learn how to revamp your tired, unloved old furniture? Come and learn a new skill on our one day introductory workshop.
During the class, you will learn how to choose the best piece of furniture to paint, along with preparation tips. You will learn how to paint, distress and wax or seal your item to create an authentic piece of shabby chic furniture.
You will also learn how to decoupage and resist techniques to decorate your furniture.
A college certificate is awarded on request.
Why is this course for me?
This is a hands on class which will introduce you to a new skill. You will learn from guided practice and demonstration.
What do I need to sign up?
There are no entry requirements in respect of this course. All learners welcome.
Is there anything else I need to know?
This is the perfect course for complete beginners who want to breathe new life into an old piece of furniture.
Please bring a small piece of wooden furniture to the class such as a mirror, small cabinet, small chair, or wooden box, and any water based paint you would like to use to complement your colour scheme. Tester pots are a good and cost effective way of using a variety of colours. A new type of ''no seal'' chalk paint is now available which can be very effective.
Please also bring an apron and any of your own equipment you wish to use such as sandpaper, brushes, a scraper, and old rags. Please ensure you wear suitable old clothing.
Please feel free to bring more than one item of wooden furniture as, time permitting, you may be able to complete more than one piece.
Please also bring light refreshments/lunch as there are only hot and cold vending machine facilities available at college on a Saturday.
Students are responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course.
Please note that all courses are subject to minimum numbers and course descriptions may be subject to change.
