What opportunities will this course give me?

This programme is ideal for individuals wanting to work as plumbers or other related disciplines in the building services engineering sector in the future.

On completion of the programme, students can progress onto NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 as an Apprentice; providing you have gained full-time employment in the plumbing industry. Prior units which have been successfully completed will count towards the NVQ. Alternatively you may progress onto higher level qualifications, such as an HNC or HND, in a related subject.

What will I be learning?

The programme will cover the following:

• Design of hot, cold and central heating supplies
• Above ground sanitation
• Installing heating controls and system components
• Working with others and customer relations
• An introduction to gas

Why is this course for me?

The theory sessions provide you with technical concepts and safe working practises, with the practical sessions allowing an opportunity for hands on experience.

The practical sessions are assessed throughout the year and theory exams are taken in stages. A design project will be included to compliment the learning.

What do I need to sign up?

Level 2 Plumbing Studies or equivalent, supplemented with GCSEs at grade A*-C / 9-4 in maths, English or Functional Skills. In addition you must have good attendance and attainment reports, with a good attitude to work.

Is there anything else I need to know?

You will be required to purchase safety footwear and overalls for the programme, together with text books in the first term.

Recommended text books include:

• Level 3 Plumbing NVQ/SVQ Diploma, C & G
