What opportunities will this course give me?
If you want to go to university but do not have enough A-level/level 3 credits, come and do an access to HE course!
Each year around 95% of our Access students take up a place at university. The Access to HE Diploma is regulated by QAA and widely recognised as a progression route by universities across the UK.
You will be awarded an Access to HE diploma from LASER. You need 60 credits in total to pass, 45 of which are graded.
Do you have the ambition and drive to become a doctor, but lack the qualifications to get into university?
This diploma is specifically designed to get you into a medicine degree and is recognised by schools of medicine.
Please check with the universities you wish to apply to that they accept this Access to HE Diploma to Medicine.
What will I be learning?
You will spend 3 days in college per week, you will study core subject modules and have a weekly tutorial with a personal tutor. You will be expected to complete around 15 hours of coursework at home a week.
On this diploma you will study these modules:
Biology
Chemistry
Maths
Medical Physics
Study Skills including these units specific for medicine:
Professional behaviours for medical practitioners
Use and comprehension of numerical data for medicine
Study skills for medicine
Reviewing and planning for the future
In the Autumn term you will complete your UCAS application. Your personal tutor will support you through this.

You will be assessed by a mixture of methods: coursework, projects and tests in the form of continuous assessment throughout the year. This course is designed to provide you with not only the qualification but also the support to enable you to achieve your ambitions.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Students receive personalised 1:1 reviews with their personal tutor on a weekly basis and we pride ourselves on the support we offer students. This course will prepare you for studying at university level. In the study skills module, you will gain experience in referencing, essay and report writing, giving presentations and researching.

Eastleigh College has excellent travel routes, rail, buses and road. We have many universities nearby and have links to many of the local universities.
You will have contact with a lecturer who has worked in the medical profession for many years, and you will have various lecturers to gain knowledge from. The tutorials are really useful to discuss any ongoing concerns and gain advice re university choices.
What do I need to sign up?
In order to be offered a place on this course, you will need to have GCSEs in English, Maths & Science at grade B/6 or above.
Please also check the GCSE requirements to be eligible for your chosen university degree course, as these may be higher.
Is there anything else I need to know?
If this is your first Level 3 qualification and you are aged between 19-23, you may be entitled to all of your fees being paid.
