Hair Professional Level 2 - Apprenticeship Standard

What opportunities will this course give me?

On completion and achievement of the standard, apprentices can progress on to Level 3 standard for Senior Hairdresser.

What will I be learning?

Hairdressers cut, colour and shape clients' hair to create the look they want.
They must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Why is this course for me?

Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men.

Apprentices will focus on the development of the mandatory knowledge, skills and behaviours before opting for an occupational area in Hairdressing to develop more specific skills and techniques.

You will undertake on and off-the-job learning and are expected to attend Eastleigh College on a day release basis. On successful completion apprentices will be awarded the Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals and, unless exempt on entry, apprentices will be required to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English & Maths and take the test at Level 2 prior to undertaking end point assessment.

Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by a Trainer.

What do I need to sign up?

Entry is subject to interview and assessment. You will need to have relevant employment. In addition, you need to have 4 GCSEs at grade D / 3 or higher, including English & Maths or have achieved a Level 1 hairdressing qualification or have relevant experience* and be able to demonstrate ability equivalent to, or exceeding Level 1 in English & Maths.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Achievement of the standard makes you eligible for State Registration with the Hair Council.

The course will continue to include Infection prevention (COVID-19) for hairdressing services as long as is necessary.

The apprenticeship end-point assessment is the final evaluation stage of your apprenticeship program at Eastleigh College. It's designed to determine whether you have achieved the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet the apprenticeship standard and perform the job role independently.

Depending on the standard, we assess your competence through various methods, such as practical exams, assignments, interviews, project work, presentations or observations and we will also evaluate your portfolio of evidence, which documents your learning and progress throughout your apprenticeship with us.

The end-point assessment must be taken at the end of your apprenticeship, and the results determine whether you have successfully completed the program and achieved the apprenticeship standard.

Successful completion of the end-point assessment is required to receive certification.
