What opportunities will this course give me?
Completion of this course will provide you with knowledge, Skills and experience required to gain employment in the electrical industry as an electrical apprentice, at an advanced stage. This course will put you in touch with industry professionals and companies as you will have to complete an Industry placement in order to gain this qualification. This qualification fulfils the technical qualification requirements for the JIB meaning, by completing the T Level you would only need to complete less years as an apprentice - leaving you the Level 3 Performance Units of an apprenticeship and the AM2s End Point exam in order to be a fully qualified electrician.

This particular course represents a pathway to further progression towards much higher level qualifications that are run by the South Coast Institute of Technology.
The South Coast Institute of Technology is a collaboration of five further education colleges and two universities. We work with well known employers to deliver industry-led courses which fill skills gaps and support the economic growth of the South Coast.
What will I be learning?
The T Level contains two components, the core content and occupational specialism, Electrotechnical Engineering
The core content is designed to offer sufficient breadth of knowledge and skills for you to apply in a variety of contexts related to the industry and those occupational specialisms linked to this T Level. The core content is the building blocks of knowledge and skills that will give you a broad understanding of the industry and job roles. At the same time, it will develop the core skills you will need to apply when working within the industry.
Occupational specialisms develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to achieve threshold competence in an occupation.
Electrotechnical Engineering:
The purpose of this specialism is for learners to know and undertake fundamental electrotechnical systems engineering processes and procedures.
Topics include:
Installation methods and termination of connections
Systems and products used in electrotechnical engineering
Analysing and using information to and from electrotechnical systems.
As part of this T Level students will seek and must complete an industry work placement. Eastleigh College has an extensive employer network with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training.
Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by an employer in Electrical Contracting industry. The industry Placement part of the T Level course will last between 45-60 days in total (at least 315 hours over 2 years). The exact length of the placement and when youll complete it depends on you locating a suitable placement.
Why is this course for me?
This course will consist of 3 days a week at college and 1 or 2 days a week (for you to achieve 315 minimum hours) on an Industry placement with an electrical contracting employer. On this course you will learn about inspection and testing, fault finding and rectification, electrical principles, and electrical systems design. The course is assessed by a written examinations, which is externally marked, as well as projects and practical tasks. There are only 2 resits allowed, by the awarding body, on this course.
How will my learning be enhanced?
You will be shown how to use various pieces of industry standard multi-function testing equipment. Additionally you will be shown demonstrations and simulations of industry equipment and electrical principles to aid your understanding. Industry experts will be invited in to give master classes about various aspects of the electrical industry

Delivery of this course will be in, our purpose built, electrical classrooms which feature the latest inspection and testing assessment rigs. The staff delivering the course are all time served electricians, with years of experience to benefit from, who utilise the latest on-line learning technologies to facilitate delivery and communication.
What do I need to sign up?
You will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 including English Language and Mathematics.
You will require an interview with subject specialist staff to ensure you have a good understanding of the course you are applying for. Attendance and attainment reports from previous education will also be required. Adult learners may apply for any of our full time and apprenticeship programmes and your vocational experience will also be taken into consideration alongside existing qualifications. The programme is fully funded for learners aged 16-18, and it is not intended for adult learners.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Steel toe-capped footwear is required for the workshop. Other personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied by the College. You will be required to purchase the latest version of BS7671 for this course - please speak to your tutor to ensure the correct version is purchased. The course entry is only from internal progression from Level 2 - those that have studied Level 2 at a different centre will be interviewed, approved and enrolled if there is space Qualification details are available at www.cityandguilds.com
All learners enrolled on the T Level full-time study programme are expected to attend a compulsory work or industry placement during their course. The number of hours of placement will be a minimum of 315 hours over 2 years. Learners should be aware that this is compulsory part of their study programme and work / industry placements will take place during the college week, either on a Monday or Friday.
