Carpenters work on construction sites to build wooden fixtures and fittings such as floorboards, window frames, roof structures and staircases. Carpenters are essential in areas such as restoration and building new housing, and work could take place on a variety of sites, including shops, bars and restaurants, and even film or TV sets. Carpenters are often involved in the whole construction process, which means greater opportunity to progress to contractor or supervisor level.
