Eddie Spence MBE, Royal Icer, presented Eastleigh College with a beautifully decorated cake this week to celebrate the College's 50th anniversary.
Eastleigh College officially opened its doors to the public in 1961 as a Hampshire County Council vocational college, with the most extensive training facilities at the time. To commemorate the occasion, Eddie created a 1960's style cake with a modern feel, inspired by the College's full-time prospectus; he created intricate iced swirls and pictures representing the vocational courses that are offered at the College.
Eddie spent over a week perfecting his design, which included
courses such as brickwork, art and hairdressing, he said:
"I love my profession and I am very lucky that I can do this. The
cake took a good week's work, but it was worth it."
Eastleigh College has grown in the last 50 years, with millions of pounds of investment to improve and create the best learning environment for students in Hampshire, including a state-of-the-art automotive garage and hair and beauty salon.
Chief Executive, Tony Lau-Walker said:
"We are not only celebrating the history of Eastleigh College, but
also the successes of our students, both full and part-time, over
the past 50 years. We currently have the largest number of students
in the history of the College ever, with twenty-two thousand
learners!"
