Advanced Learner Loan

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

If you're starting a course on or after 1 August 2018 you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. These loans help you to pay the tuition fees charged by colleges and training organisations.

Most learners aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 to Level 6, will qualify for these loans from the UK Government. It's easy to apply, your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. You won't have to pay anything back until you have completed (or left) your course and your income is over £25,000 a year. This will not affect your entitlement to full funding for the first Level 3 qualification for those aged 19-23.

Overview

Further education at Level 3 and above gives you the skills and knowledge that you need to develop professionally, increases your potential, and gives you the qualifications you need to progress in life and work. It also provides evidence of your skills and knowledge to potential employers and improves your chances of getting the job that you want.

If you're planning to study a Level 3 to Level 6 course starting on or after 1 August 2018, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. These loans help you to pay the fees charged by approved colleges and training organisations in England.

You don't have to take out a Loan. But its availability means that you can improve your knowledge and skills without needing to pay the course fees upfront.

You will not have to pay back the Loan until you have completed (or have left) your course and you are earning over £25,000 a year. Your monthly repayment will be 9% of your wages above £25,000.

If you are on a low income, there may be extra financial support available to help you with the costs of coming to college? Ask one of our advisors for further details on how to apply for additional financial support alongside the Loan.
