Calligraphy is such a therapeutic hobby and relaxation lowers stress levels. This is a fabulous hobby that enables learners to take a break from their busy lives.

What will I be learning?
In this hands-on workshop, learners will be taught the foundations of this popular traditional lettering style. You will be gently introduced to some of the pen strokes that help make letter forms.
Beginning with pencil, learners will gain an understanding of the underlying structure of Italic hand, before moving on to tackle the alphabet with a calligraphy pen using ink or gouache.
Learners will be shown how to be comfortable with their tools, materials, and lettering, and building confidence to develop a calligraphic composition.
Why is this course for me?
This course is ideal for beginners and craft enthusiasts wishing to learn new skills with a dip pen and ink. From completing the workshop, you will feel confident and able to use your new skills at home to create wedding stationery or lettering craft projects. The tutor will be there to help you every step of the way through demonstration, guided practice and support, and there will be practice sheets to follow.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Workshops take place in a large teaching classroom. Handouts will help you to understand the fundamentals of letter forms and strokes, and enable you to start your thick and thin lettering with pressure and practice. The workshop has planned Q&A, discussions and one to one support.
Why is Eastleigh College my best choice?
The tutor has over 20 years teaching experience, with qualifications in Calligraphy and Illustration, Interior Design and Dressmaking. Lettering is her passion and she uses these skills to create recipe books, wooden signs, and food packaging for business.
What do I need to sign up?
There are no entry requirements in respect of this course. This is the perfect workshop for complete beginners who want to learn to make beautiful letters using the art of traditional calligraphy.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please bring reading glasses (if required) to the workshop. Although a starter dip pen, nib and use of ink is provided in the cost of the workshop, you may wish to bring any calligraphy pens and ink if you already have them.
Please ensure your course is running before purchasing any materials. Learners are responsible for the purchase of other materials relevant to the course.
