What opportunities will this course give me?
Students can progress onto the level 1 Functional Skills English course. Alternatively, if they are still working towards their entry awards they can continue to do so.
What will I be learning?
Students will work on reading for everyday use and technical information. They will develop their general writing skills including everyday and business writing. They will also work on spelling and punctuation skills, as well as grammar. The course will also help to improve confidence, through discussions and presentations, in speaking, listening and communication. Students will work towards achieving Functional Skills English at entry level 3 and, if appropriate, may progress onto level 1. This award has three components, Writing, Reading, and Speaking, Listening and Communication. It is possible for students, who may need to take a little longer to achieve the Functional Skills awards, to work towards small English awards in the specific areas that they may need. Why is this course for me?
Students learn in small groups, through discussion and practical activities. They also work independently on targets that have been identified, discussed and agreed with the course tutor.
What do I need to sign up?
There are no requirements for this course but students must be working at the appropriate level and demonstrate their skills through an initial assessment.
Is there anything else I need to know?
This is an entry level entry level programme for adults who want to develop their reading and writing skills, Students will learn skills in all areas of English: reading, writing, speaking, spelling, punctuation and grammar. They will also take part in a number of discussion across a wide range of subjects. This course is suitable for those who want to further develop their English for work or to help their children with reading, writing and spelling. Students will work towards Functional Skills English at entry level 3.
Students should bring with them, pen, paper, pencil A4 ring binder.
