What opportunities will this course give me?
Completion of this course will provide you with knowledge and experience required to gain employment in the electrical industry as an electrical improver, electricians mate, or an advanced apprentice. This course will put you in touch with industry professionals and companies as you will have to complete work placements in order to gain this qualification.
This qualification fulfils the technical qualification requirements for the JIB meaning you would only need to complete a level 3 NVQ and the AM2 exam in order to be a fully qualified electrician.
What will I be learning?
You will study a variety of units and improve your knowledge about electrical installation. You will also build on your practical skills, along with undertaking in-depth inspecting, testing, fault finding and rectification.
Why is this course for me?
This course will consist of 3 days a week at college and 2 days a week (for a significant percentage of the course) on placement with an electrical employer.
On this course you will learn about inspection and testing, fault finding and rectification, electrical principles, and electrical systems design.
The course is assessed by a written exam, which is externally marked, as well as a short project and 2 practical tasks. There are only 2 resits allowed, by the awarding body, on this course.
How will my learning be enhanced?
You will be shown how to use various pieces of industry standard multi-function testing equipment. Additionally you will be shown demonstrations and simulations of industry equipment and electrical principles to aid your understanding. Industry experts will be invited in to give master classes about various aspects of the electrical industry

The staff delivering the course are all time served electricians, with years of experience to benefit from, who utilise the latest on-line learning technologies to facilitate delivery and communication.
What do I need to sign up?
Level 2 Electrical Installation and 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C / 9-4 including English and Maths or equivalent Functional Skills and an attendance record of 90% for L2 Qual. You will also be required to sit BKSB assessments and diagnostic testing.
You will need to undertake a successful interview in college, demonstrating interest and commitment to study.
All students without GCSEs at grade A*-C / 9-4 in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Steel toe-capped footwear is required for the workshop. Other personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied by the College.
You will be required to purchase the latest version of BS7671 for this course - please speak to your tutor to ensure the correct version is purchased

The course is filled with internal progression from level 2 - those that have studied Level 2 at a different centre will be interviewed, approved and enrolled if there is space
