What opportunities will this course give me?

Esports has become one of the worlds most exciting entertainment trends with a recent industry report stating that the industry is expected to be worth $1.7 billion by 2021, growing at a rate of 18.4% per year. With this growth there is the increasing number of job opportunities for graduates with the knowledge and expertise to excel in this environment.

Most people think the only career in Esports is professional gaming. In reality, there are jobs in management, operations, sales, event planning, coaching, travel agent, and even social media coordinating.

Primary roles include: Professional player, Shout caster/host, Coach/analyst, Journalist/content creator, PR/Marketing executive, Product manager, Sales/partnerships, Manager, Admin/referee, Organisation owner/manager, Community/social media manager, Broadcast/production crew, Event manager, Agent, Other roles (statistician, lawyer, finance, support etc)

Lots of choice:
Following this course you may choose to continue in Esports to specialize or you may choose to undertake a course in either Digital Futures level 3 (computing) or Creative Media level 3 in order to pick up wider skills such as game design, coding and cyber security.

What will I be learning?

Throughout the course you will spend most of your time planning for and supporting the promotion, operation and analysis of a number of Esports events. This project based approach ensures that you not only complete the modules listed below but also gain the valuable industry experience necessary for employment in the sector.

Modules in the first year include:

1.Introduction to esports
2.Esports skills, strategies, and analysis
3.Enterprise and entrepreneurship in the esports industry
4.Health well being and fitness for esports players

In addition you will have the opportunity to learn and practice the following:
• Live Stream Broadcasting
• Sports and esports law and legislation
• Video Production
• Computer Networking

It is in the above areas that you would specialize in, if you choose to progress to a second year in Esports.

Why is this course for me?

If you spend time watching computer game tournaments online and would love to be involved in this exciting industry then this is the course for you.

If you are interested in gaining employment in any of the roles mentioned above, then this is an ideal and fun way to learn about these roles in a practical way.

How will my learning be enhanced?

You will undertake work experience within the sector as part of the course and will also work with learners from all over the college in collaborative events.

What do I need to sign up?

Ideally you will have at least five GCSEs These should include English and Mathematics from grades 9-4.

Any student with less than a grade C (4) in English or Maths will be required to continue study in this area alongside their course.

All applicants should also complete a successful interview in college, demonstrating interest and commitment to study and have good attendance and attainment reports from a previous school or college. Just having the grades is not enough, we are looking for outgoing young people who are prepared to work hard as a member of a team.

A firm commitment to seek on-going study at Level 3 in the Computer Science field is required.

Is there anything else I need to know?

All students can use our Learning Centre which is fully equipped with modern PCs, printers and scanners. Access to the Internet is available in all computer rooms. All full-time students will be provided with email facilities for use with coursework.

Your studies will include days where you are in college and days where you will be at home working privately on the materials we give you.
