Learners may progress in their employment to team leading and management roles.
They may also progress to higher level qualifications in team leading and management.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no set entry requirements for this course, however higher level staff members will have significantly more and in depth experience of being in a working business environment to ensure that they possess the relevant skills to build on. Less experienced candidates may be better suited to Levels 2 or 3.

What does this programme involve?

Learners are required to take mandatory units which cover working in a business environment managing own performance as well as areas such as communicating, supporting sustainability and managing risk. They may then choose from a wide range of option units covering different administrative functions such as support services, project management, organising events or meetings and customer service. There is a wide range of option units allowing learners to choose units to meet the needs of their own work role.

To successfully achieve the qualification learners must gather evidence which shows that they have met the required standard in the assessment criteria.

The qualifications are designed to be assessed in the workplace.

To achieve an Edexcel Level 4 NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration, you must complete a minimum of 30 credits, of which 20 credits must be selected from units at level 4:

1: 20 credits must be completed from GROUP A MANDATORY UNITS; and
2: A minimum of 10 credits from GROUP B OPTIONAL UNITS.

The Mandatory units are made up of the following units:

Unit 1: Manage and be Accountable for own Performance in a Business Environment
Unit 2: Evaluate and Improve own Performance in a Business Environment
Unit 3: Support the Purpose and Values of an Organisation
Unit 4: Support Sustainability in a Business Environment
Unit 5: Assess, Manage and Monitor Risk in a Business Environment
Unit 6: Communicate in a Business Environment

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.

What else do I need to know?

These qualifications are designed for learners who are employed in senior Administrative positions. They would probably be responsible for supervising staff, and for implementing and monitoring systems and services. Some of the potential job roles to work towards this qualification are Administrative assistant/administrator, Civil Service Administrative, assistant/officer, Event and exhibition organiser, Legal secretary, Local government committee administrator, School administrative assistant Secretary.

How do I apply?

If you are hoping to undertake a workbased apprenticeship, please be aware that you will need to be employed in a relevant role in industry and your employer must agree to your training.
