What career opportunities can this lead to?

Upon successful completion of the course, students can progress to Edexcel BTEC Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management (QCF) and the Edexcel BTEC Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Management & Leadership.

What are the entry requirements?

NVQs will identify and confirm the current level of competence. As such the candidate must have responsibility for a range of organisational tasks and be able to show the level of competency required to achieve this qualification. NVQs are work based qualifications through which the skills and knowledge people need to perform their jobs effectively are assessed.

Candidates will be required to work in an environment where they are responsible for people and involved in a variety of organisational processes and tasks.

What does this programme involve?

Work based evidence will be required in the form of witness statements, personal statements, work products. Observation and questioning will also be used to assess your competence in your job. Evidence is assessed against the national standards by a qualified assessor who will be allocated to you.

There are 3 mandatory units within the qualification (credit value 14), and are areas of knowledge, behaviours and understanding a candidate should have before starting on the course. Learners must also choose optional units with a combined minimum total of 11 credits.

-Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.

What else do I need to know?

Candidates in the workplace wishing to prove competency in their current job role. NVQ Level 3 in Management requires the candidate to show their competence by applying their knowledge and skills, whilst carrying out a broad range of varied work activities, most of which are complex and non-routine. As a level 3 candidate, they are expected to be working as Supervisor, Team Leader or First Line Manager.

Candidates require a flexible approach to achieving qualifications, and should have the ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Word.

If the potential candidate cannot show competency in the areas identified above, they should be directed onto a taught management qualification such as Level 3 Certificate in Management.

How do I apply?

If you are hoping to undertake a workbased apprenticeship, please be aware that you will need to be employed in a relevant role in industry and your employer must agree to your training.
