What opportunities will this course give me?
If youve always dreamt of learning a language, our Spanish Beginners programme could be the perfect course for you! This is a relaxed-paced course ideal for beginners from all walks of life; there are no exams to worry about, and all levels of experience are welcome. You may want to brush up old skills or kick-start an entirely new one whatever your position, all that is needed is an enthusiastic nature and willingness to learn.
Upon successful completion of Spanish Beginners Term 1 and Term 2, learners will be able to progress on to the Spanish Year 2 course.
What will I be learning?
Spanish Beginners lessons are held in a relaxed informal atmosphere. Students learn to cope in a variety of everyday situations commonly encountered on visits to Spain or other Spanish speaking countries.
A variety of teaching methods will be used including whole class, group work, team work, pair work, role play, games and multi media resources. A course book will be used to supplement the course and help with simple grammar. Some homework will be set each week.
You will be able to converse in simple terms and cope with everyday situations such as asking the way, shopping, changing money, ordering snacks and drinks, asking for tourist information, booking into hotels, going to the garage/petrol station. Basic grammar will be covered as it arises.
Term 1 (September): For learners who are complete beginners and have no previous experience of the Spanish language.
Term 2 (January): For learners who have studied a little Spanish language previously, can conjugate basic verbs in the present tense, form simple sentences and know vocabulary for everyday situations.
If you are unsure of your level of ability, please contact the Adult & Community Learning Team on 023 8091 1270 for advice.
A College Certificate will be awarded on request and successful completion of the course.
Why is this course for me?
Students will learn and be assessed by participation, either interaction between teacher and student or through group work, pair work or role play, games etc.
The four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be covered but with the emphasis on speaking and listening.
A course book will be used and some homework set between classes to help learners get the most out of the course.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Our Spanish Beginners course is taught by a tutor with lots of experience of teaching Spanish to adult learners. All of our language tutors are passionate about the subject they teach and keen to pass on their knowledge to enthusiastic learners.
It is important to remember that since this is a leisure course, the motivation to learn will
ultimately come from the learner. For those wishing to get the most out of the course, we recommend an hour of study time a week; we will encourage you to find a way to practice at your own pace and style outside of the classroom.
The topics covered are varied, offering an enriching learning experience, and the programme can be adjusted to suit learner needs and interests. We strive to keep our leisure courses flexible, and Spanish Beginners is no exception.
