What opportunities will this course give me?
This 8 week course may assist students to gain work, or progress their career, in care, education or any other area where an ability to use Makaton is required. On successful completion of Level 1 and 2 course, learners will be able to progress on to the Makaton Level 3 and 4 combined course.
What will I be learning?
You will be learning Makaton signs and symbols to use in your interactions with Makaton Users from our knowledgeable Makaton Tutor. You will also be supported to understand the origins, background and development of the Makaton Language Programme and how Makaton differs from British Sign Language.
Our Tutor will provide ideas of how to implement the use of Makaton at home or work and support you with your Makaton related challenges as the weeks progress.
A certificate of attendance will be awarded to learners upon successful completion of the course.
Why is this course for me?
Makaton is best learned in a live class from a live Tutor. During this 8 week course you will have weekly opportunities to learn and revise your signs and symbols. You will gain confidence in your Makaton skills as you get support for your Makaton related challenges, learn alongside other like-minded people, and receive feedback on your signing and symbol work from our experienced Makaton Tutor.
At Eastleigh College we have chosen to offer the Makaton Levels 1 and 2 Combined over 8 weeks of 2-hour lessons. During the 8 weeks of the course you will grow and consolidate your skills over this extended period. You will be given lots of opportunities to practise your new skills in class with your peers, as well as being given ideas for practice between lessons to support you in your interactions with Makaton Users.
