Travel Bursary

Eastleigh College does not want essential transport costs to be a barrier to an outstanding education, so it has developed a bursary scheme to support a range of its students with the cost of travel. A Travel Bursary will be available to new students who are:

Aged 16-18

Income Category Type of Support Available
Family income less than £16,190 per year and meets the free school meals criteria. Fully-funded bus pass for those living more than three miles from the College, plus free College meals.
Family income less than £25,000 per year. Fully-funded essential equipment costs such as uniform, safety boots, PPE, etc.
Family income less than £30,000 per year. Can apply for a higher level subsidised bus pass, if living more than three miles from the College.
Family income less than £50,000 per year. Can apply for a lower level subsidised bus pass, if living more than three miles from the College.
Family income more than £50,000 per year. Special discounted bus passes available from Blue Star and Xelabus, purchased via student finance.
Vulnerable students (in Local Authority Care, care leavers, or independently in receipt of income support, ESA and DLA, or ESA and PIP) Weekly payment of £30 directly into the students bank account, term-time only (dependent on attendance).


Students wishing to apply for the Travel Bursary will need to do so prior to the end of August on the year of study. Students will need to submit a completed travel bursary application form, together with evidence of their home address and their household income.

Payments are subject to minimum attendance, achievement and behaviour levels. The College reserves the right to withdraw support at any time.

Aged 19+

There are two bursary funds available, including one for students who are using an Advanced Learning Loan.

Income Category Type of Support Available
Students with a household income of less than £25,000 per year, or in receipt of an income assessed benefit.    Bursary to support travel costs paid termly to full-time and part-time students. Childcare support is also available at 50% of the cost of care, whilst the student is in College.


Students attending a full-time course can also apply for a discounted bus pass, as described in the 16-18 years section above.

How to Apply

To apply for any of the support options listed above, please submit a completed travel bursary application form, together with evidence of your home address and household income. Please then send this to: IAG and Admissions, Eastleigh College, Chestnut Avenue, SO50 5FS.
