16-19 Bursary Fund

Full-Time students only

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a financial support scheme which provides assistance to full-time students where financial considerations may prevent attendance on a full-time course.

The Bursary is split into two types of funding support:

  1. Bursary for all vulnerable students (those in Local Authority Care, Living Independently or have a registered disability and in receipt of Employment Support and Disability Living Allowances and
  2. Discretionary Awards for college related expenditure for families who have a low household income

The below table illustrates the type of support available to students in these categories:

Amount/Type of support available

Vulnerable students
(in Local Authority Care, live independently or are registered disabled and in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance - evidence required for all)

£1,200 bursary - paid via a one off payment of £120 at the start of the course and then £30 a week (provided the  student has 90% attendance and meets behavioural standards)

Income less than £16,190 per year and meets the 'free school meals' criteria

Weekly bursary and voucher for a Further Education Free Meal, for timetabled days in College

Income up to £25,000 per year

Assistance with essential course associated costs such as equipment and uniform (does not include trips)

Income up to £30,000 per year and living more than 3 miles from the College

Enhanced Travel Bursary paid termly
