Junior Chef's Programme

Who is it for?

If you are in years 9, 10 or 11 at school and either enjoy cooking, want to learn new skills or are interested in a career as a chef, then this course is for you!


What will I learn on this course?

During the course you will learn how to work in a professional kitchen, using professional equipment. You will also learn basic skills such as:

  • bread making
  • knife skills
  • how to butcher whole poultry
  • making choux pastry
  • service in a professional kitchen 


What qualities do I need?

You need to have an interest and passion for the food service industry, as well as a good work ethic along with the desire to learn and work in a professional environment.

Students will need to have determination, be open to new ideas, always respectful of others, hardworking and a good team player.


What can I do after this course?

The Hospitality and Catering industry is a fast growing and ever changing industry, so the variety of jobs is vast. This course is specifically designed to give young people an opportunity to experience working in professional kitchens.

What else do I need to know?

All ingredients will be provided by the College for the duration of the course. 

Full payment of £60 is required when enrolling on this course. Unfortunately we are unable to offer the option to pay in instalments.

The course will take place on Wednesdays from 4.30pm - 6.30pm and the duration is 6 weeks. Full payment for the course must be made in advance to secure your place. 

A chef's jacket and hat will be provided to all students for which a refundable deposit of £15 is required, payable at the time of enrolment. The deposit will be refunded upon the return of the uniform and completion of the course.
