What will I be learning?
This course will allow you to gain knowledge on the different functions of your sewing machine and how to do your own simple maintenance to keep it in good working order.
You will create a portfolio of samples to use for future reference.
Why is this course for me?
The course will be taught through practical demonstrations and hands on activities.
What do I need to sign up?
No entry requirements in respect of this course; it is suitable for anyone who owns a sewing machine and has an interest in learning how to use it.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please bring your sewing machine with the manual, a minimum of 3 bobbins, and all the tools and attachments, sewing machine needles, dressmaking scissors for cutting fabric, disappearing marker for fabric or textile chalk, tape measure and a ruler, calico 0.5m or similar fabric, 0.5m of stretch fabric (jersey, mesh or similar).
Your sewing machine must be a standard domestic sewing machine in good working order.
Please also bring fabric for your project (2 x 0.5m of cotton or polycotton (polyester and cotton blend) fabric in different colours or prints. Choose fabrics that look nice together. Alternatively, 1m of cotton fabric in one colour or print. Polyester thread in white or cream and one extra colour to match your chosen fabrics, other colour options if you like, shirring elastic, invisible or other zip (20cm or so), notepad, pen and pencil.
Please also bring a light lunch/refreshments as there are no catering facilities on college premises on a Saturday.
Students are responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course.

A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until all of the necessary enrolment paperwork is signed and any relevant fees are paid.
