Covid-19 Update

Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the College calendar has been changed for the first term of the 2020/21 academic year and has introduced a two-week October half term break. This break is from Monday 19 to Friday 30 October during which time the College is closed to Learners. The College office will be open from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October (telephone/email enquiries open) and closed from Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October (telephone/email enquiries closed until Monday 2 November). From 2 November we are increasing the areas in which a face mask or covering is required to be worn.

What opportunities will this course give me?

Enjoy five exciting weeks diving into the world of hairdressing with our Haircutting for the Family part-time course.

You'll learn the fundamentals of hairdressing while meeting new, like-minded people in a fund and engaging environment. It offers a practical teaching approach to the basics of cutting hair, meaning you'll leave Eastleigh College confident to carry out ladies and men's haircuts on your family and friends.

Plus, you'll have the opportunity to kick-start a Level 2 Award in Hairdressing armed with a core, introductory understanding of the industry and the skill set it requires.

What will I be learning?

On the first session of the course the students will have a demonstration of a hair cut and instruction on Health and Safety. Advice is given on equipment.

Throughout the course several handouts about haircutting will be given. Advice can be given on other hairdressing procedures. On further weeks learners will be asked to bring a model (person) to practice on, but may just want to watch others work.

Please note it is the responsibility of the learner to provide the model and we cannot accept any responsibility for the outcome should the result not be to the model's satisfaction.

Learners will be able to do basic haircuts such as bob cut and a basic layer cut.

A College Certificate will be awarded on request.

Why is this course for me?

Our 5 week course is ideal for learners with no or little hairdressing experience. It taps into all the basic skills needed to cut hair and is 100% practical - you'll be cutting hair yourself in the second week!

Alongside the core methods taught, you'll benefit from sound advice about the best equipment to use, how to use it effectively and how to keep it in pristine condition.

Lessons are delivered in a hands on, interactive way, so it's perfect for those who enjoy a ''learn by doing'' approach to their studies.

How will my learning be enhanced?

While this is an introductory course, many of our learners take advantage of their time at the college to learn about other leisure courses and qualifications. Our careers and support team are exceptional, and they're always willing and happy to guide you towards any progression opportunities.

You'll be part of a pool of motivated individuals, all with similar interests; this offers a brilliant chance to expand your network and tap into new social circles.

Why is Eastleigh College my best choice?

The course is delivered in our new, modern hair and beauty building. It features realistic salon spaces with fresh working stations and basins so that learners can work and learn in an authentic environment. This not only adds context to your learning, but it adds a fun edge to the programme.

Our salons are spacious and bursting with industry standard equipment.

We pride ourselves on the community feel each and every one of our programmes creates; you'll leave with new contacts - and just as importantly - friends to support you in your onward journey, wherever that may be!

What do I need to sign up?

There are no formal entry requirements in respect of this course. All beginners welcome.

Is there anything else I need to know?

This course is for anybody who would like a basic knowledge of hair cutting and would like to be able to conduct basic hair cuts on their family or friends.

The first week will be a demonstration, so no equipment will be needed. The tutor will advise learners which hairdressing scissors to buy at the first class.

Learners may need to purchase suitable haircutting equipment, advice will be given at the first class.
