What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal requirements are necessary to join this course.

What does this programme involve?

This course involves exploring the theory and practice of art, craft and design in different cultures and periods of time. The course is suitable for adults wishing to gain the basic beginners knowledge of the periods and movements within fine art and design to enable them to fully understand the subject in great detail, and develop their own point of view and interest.

As a non-accredited course there is no assessment - a college certificate will be awarded on request.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

You will learn by looking at, discussing and analysing selected works within their original context, studying theories and exploring materials and methods of working.

The first time will involve looking at work from the Renaissance periods and will slowly go through all the great movements in Art ending in Modern and Pop. We will also be looking at artist influences from the East, as well as the West.

The artists that will be included are Van Gogh, Hokusai, Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Van Eyck, and on to the start of work by Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, later on within the term.

The content of subsequent terms will be discussed and agreed with the group during the first term.

What else do I need to know?

Please bring a pen, pencil, eraser and notebook to the class.

Students are responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course.

Additional costs could include the cost of visiting museums and galleries.
