What opportunities will this course give me?
Students will progress to developing sustained compositions. There are also other art courses offered by the college which would offer further development and practice opportunities.
What will I be learning?
This course offers a series of sessions which progress step by step through theory, practical work, discussion and demonstrations. You will look at a variety of styles and the methods these styles employ.
You will look at the work of well known artists and discuss their ideas, paintings and drawings.
By the end of the course you will be able to create a piece of art-work that takes colour, tone, pattern, texture, form, shape and composition into account, that you will enjoy making and looking at/exhibiting.
A College Certificate is awarded on request.
Why is this course for me?
You will learn through theory, where useful, including looking at the work of well known artists and discuss their ideas, paintings and drawings. The course will include plenty of demonstrations (at least one each session) and one to one and group tuition. We use a mixture of primary and secondary reference materials (about 50/50).
What do I need to sign up?
There are no entry requirements for this course.
Is there anything else I need to know?
This course is suitable for those with little or no experience in drawing and painting.
Students will require drawing pencils including a 2B pencil, drawing paper, eraser and sharpener.
All students will need basic art equipment but this can be purchased individually if wished as the course progresses.
