Covid-19 Update

Given the Covid-19 pandemic, the College calendar has been changed for the first term of the 2020/21 academic year and has introduced a two-week October half term break. This break is from Monday 19 to Friday 30 October during which time the College is closed to Learners. The College office will be open from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October (telephone/email enquiries open) and closed from Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October (telephone/email enquiries closed until Monday 2 November). From 2 November we are increasing the areas in which a face mask or covering is required to be worn.

What opportunities will this course give me?

Students may wish to attend other confectionery or cookery courses offered by the college- please browse the website.

What will I be learning?

By attending this course you will learn how to make perfect, professional patisseries and viennoiseries for spring time.

The day will give an introduction to Easter baking. Recipes for the day may include:-

• Hot cross bun loaf/buns
• Cranberry and almond Easter crown with spiced glaze
• Easter lemon infused shortcake butter biscuits with run out icing or dipped in chocolate
• Classic Simnel rum slices with marzipan tags

Following tutor demonstrations, you will have the opportunity to bake a selection of your choice.

Why is this course for me?

The course is essentially a practical class with hands on learning. There will be some group and individual instruction, including demonstrations.

What do I need to sign up?

There are no formal entry requirements necessary for this course; this course is suitable for anyone who would like to make edible Easter treats and gifts.

Is there anything else I need to know?

You will require an apron, some items of equipment and ingredients. A full list of required items will be sent out a week before your class.

Students will be responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course. Ingredients need to be purchased by students in advance of the lesson from the list provided.
