Join us on Saturday 19 November for our FREE Community Learning Open Day and take part in an exciting range of free workshops as part of our Adult Community Learning programme.

In these workshops you will discover or develop new skills, meet new people and have fun. All workshops are open to adult learners aged 19 and over and will include all materials/ingredients on the day.  There is no limit to how many workshops you can sign up to on the day.  Spaces are limited so we do recommend booking as soon as possible.

Free workshops:

Make Your Own Pottery Coffee Cup (Group 1) - 9.30am to 11.30am

In this workshop you will learn how to hand build your own pottery cup or vessel.

Photography. Take Better Pictures on your Phone or Camera - 9.30am to 10.30am

What makes an interesting photo? Come to this hands-on session, bring your camera or phone and experiment with some new ideas for taking pictures.

Observational Pencil Drawing - 9.30am to 10.30am

Enjoy step by step observational pencil drawing using a wide range of shading techniques.

Archaeology - 9.30am to 10.30am

An introduction to the subject, including a brief presentation about pottery.

Jewellery Enamelling Workshop - 9.30am to 10.45am

You will be shown how to enamel a copper blank which can be turned into a pendant or keyring.

Creative Writing Workshop - 9.30am to 11.30am

The session will look at some of the key-pillars of storytelling, as well as give you an opportunity to put pen to paper and privately experiment with some writing.

Glass Hand Engraving Workshop - 9.30am to 11.30am

Are you up to scratch? Why not come along and explore diamond point engraving on glass.

Welding - 10.00am to 11.00am

Come along to find out more about MIG welding. You will learn about the importance of health and safety, what to look out for when welding, and the more common pitfalls on this informative session.

Hair Cutting for the Family - 10.00am to 11.00am

You will be introduced to the basics of cutting hair, giving tips on the best methods to achieve results.

Dog Design Cupcake Topper Workshop (Group 1) - 10.00am to 11.00am

You will learn how to make a cute dog cake topper using fondant icing. Under step by step guidance, you will learn new skills along the way, and be able to take your cupcake creations home to share. Cupcakes are for human consumption only.

Relax and Stretch Yoga - 10.00am to 11.30am

You will learn how to breathe deeply to release stress and anxiety.  We will be practicing gentle stretching exercises using some yoga poses.

Acrylic Painting - 10.45am to 11.45am

Enjoy acrylic paintaing and experimenting with a range of techniques.

Get to Grips with your Mobile Phone or Tablet - 11.00am to 12.30pm

Come along to this session for some hands on help! We'll start with a general discussion of what you can do with these devices, see how to connect to the internet, and look at some apps. We'll also cover how to keep safe and how to spot scams, and, time allowing, giving some one-to-one help.

British Sign Language (Group 1) - 11.00am to 12.00pm

Come along to this interactive workshop and learn some BSL fingerspelling and basic greetings to assist you in communicating with the deaf community.

Makaton - 11.00am to 12.30pm

This session is designed to give a brief insight and fun experience of the Makaton Language Programme.

Watercolour Painting - 12.00pm to 13.00pm 

Enjoy step by step watercolour painting using a range of techniques.

80s Dance Fitness - 13.00pm to 14.00pm

Enjoy a great workout, involving dance and aerobic fitness, to some of the best hits of the 1980s.
