What opportunities will this course give me?
KickStart Level 2 (KST21) is a full-time course which runs for 3 days per week. It is a modular vocationally orientated programme offering BTEC WorkSkills at Level 1 or Level 2 with an opportunity to develop maths and English skills, as appropriate, in addition to undertaking a range of vocational taster to support career planning.
All learners who have not achieved a GCSE A*-C or 9-4 grade for Maths or English will be required to engage with an appropriate maths or English programme until the GCSE Grade C (4) or equivalent has been achieved.
Successful completion can lead to progression to further L2 or 3 study, depending on entry requirements and or an apprenticeship or employment.
What will I be learning?

It is a modular, vocationally orientated programme offering BTEC WorkSkills and work related experiences at Level 1 or Level 2 with an opportunity to develop maths and English skills, as appropriate. In addition you will be undertaking a range of vocational tasters to support personal ambitions and career planning.
All learners who have not yet achieved a GCSE 9-4 (A*-C) grade for Maths or English will be required to engage with an appropriate maths or English programme until the GCSE Grade 4 (C) or equivalent has been achieved. Individuals with Grade 1 or 2 for Maths & English will study Functional skills instead of GCSE's.
Why is this course for me?
You will learn and continually develop your skills through a mix of tutor led sessions, demonstrations supported by individual research and group work, issued time-critical assignments and practical tasks that will develop the skills required for further vocational study or transition to the workplace.
How will my learning be enhanced?
You will be required to undertake a minimum of 60 hrs of work placement to support your work ready development in addition to activities that will help you to explore social enterprise activities to develop a work ready ethos. There may be a requirement to undertake occasional Saturday markets to support learning.
Why is Eastleigh College my best choice?
You will be able to engage in multiple vocational options to sample and test your understanding of different topics before you make a final choice for progression. Each taster session will run for a half-term, you may change your choices each half term.
What do I need to sign up?
You will be working confidently at GCSE Level 2 (or equivalent) and will have already achieved qualifications in Literacy and/or Numeracy at Functional Skills Level 1 (equivalent) or higher. You will need to successfully complete an interview with a member of the course team and be ready and motivated to progress towards higher level study or employment.
Is there anything else I need to know?
KST21 is a multi-skilled, full-time course designed to assist, empower and support successful progression for 16 - 18-year olds undertaking full-time studies within the College.
This course is suitable for students:
• Who have not met the entry requirement for their chosen vocational progression.
• Who are unsure of their future career path and want to try before they commit.
• Who have completed the KickStart programme and have been offered a progression transition.
Group sizes for the KST21 cohorts are set at 15-18 and will be supported by a tutor and where required an appropriate learning support.
The programme is flexible and varied to maintain student engagement with learning delivered in bite sized sessions. This course will include individual research tasks alongside syndicate team activities supported by self-study periods where students will undertake pre agreed online modules or use the time for smaller projects or catch up with tutor support.
This programme may including a number of weekend or evening market days which students must attend to promote their individual project items.
To enable the safety of the students, it may be necessary to purchase appropriate clothing or footwear for use in the workshop or any other off-site work experience.
