What opportunities will this course give me?
Travel and Tourism is a growing sector of the UK and world economy and therefore job opportunities in travel are almost limitless. This programme would be suitable for anyone seeking to work in this exciting industry. The potential job roles include travel representative, cabin crew, travel agent, customer service at airports, working on cruise ships or for cruise companies, and a whole lot more.
Previous Eastleigh College travel students have gone on to work for Carnival Cruises, British Airways, Swissport, Hayes Travel and TUI amongst others. Eastleigh College has links with Swissport at Southampton Airport who accepts approximately six students on work experience each year. Most of the students are offered a contract on completion of their work experience.
The programme carries UCAS points for those wishing to progress on to university.
What will I be learning?
This two year programme offers progression from the Introductory Diploma through to the Extended Diploma, dependent on your entry grades and achievement in Year One.
The core topics include The UK Travel and Tourism Industry; Customer Service in Travel and Tourism, Preparing for a Career in Travel and Tourism. Further units include Report Representatives roles and Responsibilities, Worldwide Passenger Airlines, The Cruise Industry and Investigating Airline Cabin Crew.
Work experience will be required to be undertaken each year studied, over a two week period within the industry with employers. Help and support will be given to find one suitable for you
Why is this course for me?
Teaching and assessment methods vary and will include lectures, practical demonstrations, short tests, written assignments, research projects amongst others. Typically, you will attend college for approximately 15-16 hours per week and you will be expected to complete homework. Year One students will be interviewed to determine their suitability to progress to the Extended Diploma.
What do I need to sign up?
To gain entry on to the programme you will require 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C / 9-4, to include Maths and English.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Students are required to pay £100.00 for a contribution towards trips required for the programme
Students need to wear smart clothes for the cabin crew unit and visits to external providers. The cost for a scarf/tie will be taken from the £100.00. There is no need to buy any additional clothing; students should be able to find what they need from their usual clothes.
