Leisure Courses

What career opportunities can this lead to?

This programme is for students wishing to extend their vocational knowledge in business, football and FUTSAL coaching, focusing on the sport and active leisure sector.

Year on year, the sport and active leisure sector outperforms the rest of the UK economy. The annual contribution of the sport sector to the UK is over 8 billion. The sector has more than 36,000 employers, creating work for more than 600,000 full-time and part-time employees, and 5 million plus volunteers. A significant proportion of the total volunteer workforce is volunteering in sport, with most of them involved in sports or activity leadership. Within sport and active leisure, a third of the workforce is only qualified to Level 1. Feedback from employers suggests that skill shortages are responsible for the large proportion of the vacancies in this sector hence the importance of formally recognised Level 3 qualifications. The business specification also addresses sector needs and skill gaps such as in finance, administration and management area.

Salary earnings can range from 16,000 per year working as a Sports Coach to in excess of 100,000 per year working at Sport England or similar organisations.

All students without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Throughout the year assessment for the Business units is undertaken using a variety of assessment methods and styles.
