What career opportunities can this lead to?

This qualification could lead to a career in the exercise & fitness industry, with a view to working as a fitness instructor within the industry. Students may progress to a variety of advanced training including, Personal Trainer (Level 3), Circuit Training, Nutrition, Exercise to Music, Antenatal and Postnatal, Spinning (indoor cycling) and Kettlebell certificates

What are the entry requirements?

You must have a good basic knowledge of the gym environment, ideally attending a gym on a regular basis. A keen interest in human anatomy, a healthy lifestyle, health and safety and how these can be linked to the fitness industry. If English is your second language you must hold an ESOL Level 1 qualification.

What does this programme involve?

You will participate in gym sessions together with the completion of theory work. Self study and research is required as part of this course.
A pre-course telephone interview will be completed to identify that the course is suitable for you. The qualification is gained by successfully completing two externally marked theory papers on Anatomy and Physiology and Principles of Health, Fitness & Exercise. A practical assessment will be carried out and assessed internally. The qualification is at Level 2 and gives you 20 points on the Register of Exercise Professionals. A mix of theory and practical sessions will be used throughout the course. The theory element of the course covers anatomy & physiology, screening and safety and components of fitness. The practical element of the course consists of Cardiovascular and resistance/free weight gym training, inducting new clients into the gym environment. This will also include programme writing and adapting this to special populations. You will be taught how to deliver these components and gain the relevant knowledge to complete this highly recognised qualification within the fitness industry.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

A mix of theory and practical sessions including role play simulation and the completion of workbooks will be used throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

The CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing provides an excellent starting point for your career in fitness instruction and is widely respected by employers throughout the UK, Ireland and abroad .

-Those already working in the Fitness Industry but who have no relevant qualifications.
-Those wishing to change careers.
-Exercise & Fitness enthusiasts who want to become Instructors.
-Those adults wishing to obtain a vocational qualification as a Fitness Instructor

Pen, paper, folder, fitness clothing including a suitable pair of trainers. Changing facilities and showers are easily accessible.
