What are the entry requirements?

Entry is subject to interview and assessment. You will need to have relevant employment within a health and fitness environment. In addition, you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 or higher, including English and Maths or have achieved a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification* and be able to demonstrate ability equivalent to, or exceeding Level 2 in English and Maths

What does this programme involve?

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Exercise & Fitness covers the knowledge and competencies required to demonstrate performance within a fitness role. The apprenticeship aims to develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology for exercise and health, applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme, delivering personal training sessions, supporting clients who take part in exercise and physical activity, principles of exercise, fitness and health, programming personal training with clients and health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment.

On successful completion apprentices will be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training & Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Personal Training in addition to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Exercise & Fitness framework certificate. Unless exempt on entry, you will also achieve Level 2 Function Skills qualifications in English and Maths.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

You will learn through a combination of on- and off-the-job training. You will attend college one day per week during term time and spend the rest of your time earning and learning in the workplace.

Apprentices will demonstrate their occupational competence through completion of a work-based portfolio and ongoing assessment.

Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Officer.

The Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Exercise and Fitness (Personal Training) is designed for those who already work in the health and fitness industry and wish to gain new knowledge and skills to continue their professional development. The health and fitness industry is a large and important component of part of the active leisure, learning and well-being sector and employees are a crucial part of the service ensuring that customers achieve their health and fitness goals.
