What career opportunities can this lead to?

On successful completion of this course you may progress onto a range of courses at Eastleigh College, including the Introductory Certificate in Vocational Studies at Level 1 or the Developing Enterprise Programme. If appropriate, you may prefer to apply for a more specific work related course which may prepare you for employment or you may feel ready to look for employment.

What are the entry requirements?

You will require an appropriate entry level qualification and complete a successful interview and assessment morning in college, demonstrating interest and commitment to study and working as part of a team.

What does this programme involve?

This programme is aimed at re-enforcing and extending independence, work and social skills.

You will study a wide range of subjects including Functional Skills, Maths, English, IT, Workskills, Drama, Customer Service, Catering, Researching a Tourist Destination, Business Administration. You will also have two weeks work experience and one day voluntary work every week.

All students take part in our annual showcase event, both as performers and as the front of house team

There are also off-site enrichment activities arranged where you will experience a range of leisure and outdoor pursuits, including a trip to Marwell Activity Centre for team building and problem solving in the first term.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

You will be taught by lecturers who are qualified and experienced in teaching students with learning difficulties. All staff will help you to develop skills such as communication, time management, working as part of a team and problem solving. You will also have your own Personal Tutor who will help you with your personal and social development.

What else do I need to know?

This is a one year course for students with moderate learning difficulties who want to develop their life skills with a view to joining the workforce on completion. Three components comprising Customer Service, Office Skills and Catering are concentrated on in order to provide support for students working towards independent living and work. Course groups are small and support is available to meet a wide range of learning styles.
This course is designed for students with a learning difficulty and/or disability who are working at, or towards, Entry 3 level.
