What opportunities will this course give me?
Counselling is a career that has long held an important place in society; but now, more than ever, the need for this valuable service is not a nice to have, but a necessity. One incredibly impactful modality of counselling is gestalt counselling.
Curated in collaboration with the University of Portsmouth, the BSc (Hons) in Gestalt Counselling teaches students how to use this form of counselling to empower change processes when working with individuals, couples, groups, teams and organisations. You will also learn how to use gestalt counselling as a highly effective way of treating a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, addiction, tension and depression.
You will be taught through role-play, and learn about the ethical dilemmas, professional and legal issues that contribute to the world of counselling. Delivered across two semesters - and taught from Eastleigh College - you will leave with a strong and confident understanding of the benefit of gestalt counselling and how to safely deliver it to people from all backgrounds and experiences.
Why is this course for me?
We believe that students learn best when taught in a variety of styles and situations. For this reason the course has been crafted with a selection of theory, skills and personal development lessons, taught through individual and group projects, discussions and small research projects with an emphasis on experiential and student-centred learning.
You will be a part of a small group of approximately eight students, creating an intimate learning environment where you can flourish. In addition, you will have access to University of Portsmouths huge suite of resources, as well as the opportunity to connect with the universitys community.
This Bachelors degree will give you the knowledge needed to apply for roles in health centres or therapy clinics, within the NHS, private hospitals, prisons and the community. With experience, you could supervise other practitioners. Gestalt is also increasingly being used by senior figures working with teams and groups in private and public settings, HR, organisational development, coaching, business consultancy, marketing and media, charity and leadership roles.
The course involves blended learning, meaning students have the opportunity to access lectures and activities at a time that works for them.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Alongside the abundance of resources available from the College and UoP, the course also includes a selection of workshops and guest speakers throughout the year. You will be encouraged to continue with personal therapy throughout the course, as well as register for British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) membership or other recognised professional bodies, both come at an additional cost, with therapy costing anywhere between £30-£70 per hour and BACP membership at £82 per year. Both will enormously benefit and enrich your learning experience, giving you first-hand experience of the world of gestalt counselling
What do I need to sign up?
A counselling qualification at Level 5 plus proof of 100 counselling placement hours.
Applicants must pass Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before starting the course.
