What opportunities will this course give me?
This qualification will lead to a career in the exercise & fitness industry, with a view to working as a gym instructor. You will gain a YMCA Level 2 Certificate in gym instructing which is a must have qualification to start any career in the fitness industry. Also through this course you will gain a level 2 award in group exercise instructing (Circuit Training) and a level 2 award in instructing kettlebell Training. At the end of this course you will have 3 internationally recognised level 2 qualifications which enables you to gain employment/ progress onto a variety of advanced training including, Personal Training (Level 3), Nutrition, Exercise to Music, Antenatal and Postnatal and exercise referral certificates.
What will I be learning?
You will participate in gym sessions together with the completion of theory work. Self study and research is required as part of this course.
A pre-course telephone interview will be completed to identify that the course is suitable for you. The qualification is gained by successfully completing one externally marked theory paper on Anatomy and Physiology and a number of online and paper based questions. A number of practical assessments will be carried out and assessed internally along with successful completion of workbooks. The qualification is at Level 2 and gives points on the Register of Exercise Professionals and endorsed by CIMPSA. A mix of theory and practical sessions will be used throughout the course. The theory element of the course covers anatomy & physiology, customer experience, lifestyle management and preparing for a gym based programme, planning circuits and kettlebell sessions. The practical elements of the course consists of Cardiovascular and resistance/free weight gym training, inducting new clients into the gym environment and delivery of exercise sessions. This will also include screening and programme writing for specific clients. You will be taught how to deliver these components and gain the relevant knowledge to complete this highly recognised qualification within the fitness industry.

The course is 50% practical and 50% theory and is delivered in a realistic working environment. We have access to our onsite fully equipped gym and studio for lessons and assessments.
How will my learning be enhanced?
Online platform (Google classroom) is used to facilitate all learning.

What do I need to sign up?
You must have a good basic knowledge of the gym environment, ideally attending a gym on a regular basis. A keen interest in human anatomy and a healthy lifestyle and how these can be linked to the fitness industry. If English is your second language you must hold an ESOL Level 1 qualification. A pre-course interview will be organised once you have completed the online application form.
Is there anything else I need to know?
The YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructing provides an excellent starting point for your career in gym instruction and is widely respected by employers throughout the UK, Ireland and abroad.

You will need to bring a Pen, paper, folder and fitness clothing including a suitable pair of trainers to each session. Changing facilities and showers are easily accessible.
